A New Life 1356

American Bison mother new-born calf in the winter, along the Gibbon River in Yellowstone National Park, Utah. I was lucky enough to watch as this mother not only gave birth, but then as she cleaned it, it was swept away by the icy cold water in the nearby stream. Then "Lucky" was rescued by a passing tourist, only to be ordered "drop the wildlife", into the snowy ground cover. I supposed that he froze and died that night, but the next morning I found they had reunited and with her warm milk and heavy coat she kept her newborn calf alive.
Much to the chagrin of the hungry coyote only a mile down river.
