The story goes that when the first gold miners in Alaska found themselves hunting for food, that the Ptarmagin were so thick and easy to kill all you had to do was walk up and hit them with a stick, hence the name stupid chicken. The gold mining town of Chicken got it's name because the miners however couldn't spell Ptarmagin.
